Many decades ago I, David W Solomons, wrote "The Poohratorio" - a children's cantata based on The Expotition to the North Pole from A A Milne's Now we are six (Winnie the Pooh). Note: This was many years before the Disney film: the melodies are all original and nothing to do with the Disney film (which I have never seen). Due to copyright problems with the estate of A A Milne, the cantata itself will become available only after 2031, when the works of AA Milne go into public domain by...

Setting of a poem by S N Solomons inspired by the poem "Si tu t'imagines" by Raymond Queneau (very different from the Joseph Kosma setting of the original as sung by Juliette Greco!). In the same way that Queneau reflected the "gather ye rosebuds" ideas of Ronsard, the poem here and the music are also neo-renaissance, a sort of 20th century re-imagining of the music with which Ronsard would have been familiar. The setting is for alto voice and guitar. (see pdf files for the...

Song of the Childless for alto voice and guitar composed and performed by David W Solomons (see pdf for score and mp3 or ogg file for performance) This song was inspired by my initial reactions to the realization that I am infertile. I have sung the polyphonic version in my one-man choir (ogg file here or video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6bkhtHKZ4E The Greek words are transliterated into Roman style lettering on the scores. Part of my Sequence for Alun's poetry (also available in my collection here on archive.org but this page provides various transpositions separate from the sequence itself). The guitar part is very simple - just chord names (I play them arpeggio style but you can play them any way that suits). The words are from St Paul's Letter to the Hebrews. The style is sort of folksy (quite different from my usual style) and could be used in an evangelical style church service. See the pdf files for the...
